# AI Visibility Tools for Dutch E-commerce: What to Look For

> Which AI visibility tool fits a Dutch webshop? Six criteria, a Dutch prompt list and a 14-day test plan to compare tools on your own product categories.

*By Bodrik Bakker · Published 2026-10-24 · Updated 2026-10-24 · Original article: https://trackbase.ai/blog/how-to-choose-ai-visibility-tools-for-dutch-ecommerce*

The best [AI visibility](https://trackbase.ai/glossary/ai-visibility) tool for a Dutch e-commerce site is one that tracks products, not just your brand name, covers Dutch-language prompts, and shows you which sources the AI models cite instead of you. Brand-level mention counts are enough for a SaaS company, but a webshop with thousands of SKUs needs to know which product was recommended, at what price and in which shopping carousel. Use the six criteria below to shortlist tools, then test two of them on your own [category prompts](https://trackbase.ai/glossary/category-prompts) for 14 days.

## Why Dutch webshops need a different kind of tool

When a shopper asks an AI assistant "which robot vacuum should I buy?", the answer is a short list of products with names, prices and reasons. If your product is not on that list, the shopper never sees your category page. For marketplaces such as [Bol.com](https://www.bol.com) and large retailers such as Coolblue, that list is often dominated by the same few names, so a smaller Dutch shop has to win on specific, well-documented products and on trusted third-party sources.

Most AI visibility tools began as SEO or brand-monitoring software and added AI search later. A 2026 comparison by the vendor Alhena found that only 3 of the 12 tools it reviewed document product-level tracking, and only 1 of the 12 documents revenue attribution. Published list prices in that review ranged from $29 to $5,000 per month. Treat these as one vendor's reading of public documentation, but the gap it describes is real: much of the category still reports mentions and stops there.

The size of the shift is debated. Gartner predicted in 2024 that traditional search volume would drop around 25% by 2026, while Google has kept more than 90% of the search market by folding AI Overviews into its own results (as summarized by Ranketta, another vendor). What is not debated is that shopping queries increasingly end in an AI-generated shortlist.

## The six criteria that matter for e-commerce

| Criterion | What to check | Why it matters for a webshop |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Product-level tracking | Can you see individual products, positions and prices? | A brand mention does not tell you which SKU wins |
| Shopping surfaces | [ChatGPT Shopping](https://trackbase.ai/glossary/chatgpt-shopping) carousels, [Google AI Overviews](https://trackbase.ai/glossary/google-ai-overviews), Perplexity | Purchase intent is concentrated here |
| Dutch-language prompts | Can you run and read prompts in Dutch? | Dutch shoppers ask in Dutch, and answers differ per language |
| [Cited sources](https://trackbase.ai/glossary/cited-sources) | Which pages are cited instead of yours? | Sources show where to earn a mention |
| Competitor benchmarking | Share of Voice against Bol.com, Coolblue and niche rivals | Tells you who takes your recommendations |
| EU hosting and GDPR | Where is the data stored? | Procurement and legal reviews ask for it |

Revenue attribution is a seventh, optional criterion. It is valuable, but it usually requires a catalogue or analytics connection, and few tools document it. Start with the first six.

## Step 1: write prompts the way Dutch shoppers ask

Build a list of 20 to 30 prompts per product category before you compare tools. Mix three types:

Run the same prompts in each tool's trial. A tool that cannot handle Dutch phrasing, or only translates your English prompts, will give you a distorted picture. For sentiment in particular, see our guide on [tracking brand sentiment in Dutch AI answers](https://trackbase.ai/blog/how-to-track-brand-sentiment-in-dutch-ai-answers).

## Step 2: check what the tool does with cited sources

The most useful output for a webshop is often not your own score but the list of pages the models cite for your category. In the Trackbase data we looked at for this article, the prompt "Which AI visibility tools work best for Dutch e-commerce sites like Bol.com or Coolblue?" drew its citations from comparison articles and listicles, not from shop homepages. For product prompts the pattern is similar: reviews, "best of" lists and comparison pages get cited.

That means your plan is partly PR and content: get listed in the roundups the models already read, and publish comparison content of your own. Our post on [earning mentions on the sources models trust](https://trackbase.ai/blog/how-to-get-cited-by-ai-earning-mentions-on-the-sources-models-trust) covers the method.

## Step 3: look at shopping and price data

If ChatGPT Shopping matters to you, check that the tool reports carousel position, merchant share and price positioning, and alerts you when a tag or price changes. Trackbase offers ChatGPT Shopping tracking as an add-on on the Professional plan and on request for Enterprise; see the [ChatGPT Shopping feature page](https://trackbase.ai/features/chatgpt-shopping) and the [e-commerce solution page](https://trackbase.ai/solutions/e-commerce) for what is covered.

## Step 4: compare cost against what you actually need

A small webshop rarely needs 11 models and 20 prompts on day one. Trackbase publishes its prices: Essential is €49 per month (1 brand, 10 prompts, 3 AI models, 3 competitors) and Professional is €199 per month (20 prompts, all 11 AI models, 10 competitors, AI Insights), both with a 14-day free trial. Check the [pricing page](https://trackbase.ai/pricing) for the current figures, because they can change. For a broader overview of budget options, read [affordable AI visibility tools for Dutch startups](https://trackbase.ai/blog/affordable-ai-visibility-tools-for-dutch-startups) and our [overview of the best AI visibility tools](https://trackbase.ai/blog/best-ai-visibility-tools).

When you compare vendors, ask for the all-in number: prompts, models, markets and seats can each be priced separately, and the entry tier often covers a single model.

## A 14-day test plan

1. Pick two or three tools and one product category.

2. Load the same 20 prompts in Dutch into each.

3. After a week, compare which products are named, which sources are cited and how often the tool's results change.

4. Check whether the recommended actions are specific enough to hand to a content writer.

5. Decide on cost per useful insight, not on feature count.

You can also start without any tool: the [free AI visibility checker](https://trackbase.ai/free-ai-visibility-checker) gives a first read on how visible your brand is.

## FAQ

### Do I need a tool that tracks individual products?

If you sell more than a handful of SKUs, yes. A brand-level mention count cannot tell you which product AI recommends or whether it shows the right price. Start with product-level tracking on your top categories.

### Which AI models matter most for Dutch webshops?

ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity cover most shopping research, but the mix differs per category. A tool that tracks all 11 major models lets you see where you are strong and where you are missing.

### Is a free tool enough to start?

A free checker is enough for a first baseline. For daily tracking, competitor comparison and cited sources you need a paid plan, so use a free trial to test it on your own prompts before you commit.
